About Us

Rob and Vicky Whelpton work from their studio at The Ginger Piggery in Boyton, Wiltshire. The Piggery is a collection of independent studios and a cafe nestled in the beautiful Wylye Valley.
Over the years they have developed a wide range of products, selling in many recognised galleries and shops across the UK. For more information please do drop us a line.
Rob works in Raku, his pots being hand built. He decorates with the Scraffito technique and colours with bright slips, glazes and metal leaf.
Vicky makes hand thrown tableware beautifully hand decorated with botanical patterns.
“My interest in ceramics began whilst doing an art and design and technology degree at St Johns College York. I spent a summer working for Peter Dick Coxwold Pottery, and also Mick Arnup Hotby York. I then trained at Dartington Pottery Devon at the time of Janice Tchalenko, when her designs were introduced to the pottery. Rob and I set up our workshop following that. Originally working in terracotta, and selling very large platters.
Over the years I and Rob have exhibited at Chelsea Craft Fair, Top Drawer London many times and the British Craft Trade Fair Harrogate and consequently sold at many leading galleries and outlets.
I now work in white eathenware, throwing a fine as possible all my pots! Decorating using a base of sponge patterns and then painting on the surface. My influences are from a throwing point of view, Korean pots, and I am very interested in horticulture, and have a RHS level 2 qualification, and spend alot of time working with plants.”
